June 20, 2021. The Farrow designed TYS Wellness Centre is under construction with a Fall 2021 opening. The undulating water-like timber ceiling grows out of the Enriched Environments (EEs) spatial element theory, also known as the study of enviromimetics, which explores the physical, emotional, and neurobiological impacts of appropriately stimulating spaces which create well-being. EEs are a non-invasive, therapeutic treatment that enhance social interaction, sensory and intellectual stimulation as well as physical activity.

Contrary to the assumption that brain networks are ‘fixed’ or that they can’t change after a particular age, our brains are permanently plastic and can grow, heal, and change at all times in our lives. A number of factors contribute to this including our environment which has an impact on our capacity to strengthen our neural networks through the process of neurogenesis.
