SZMC Master Plan

Location: Jerusalem, Israel

Category: Health

Scope: Master Planning

Client: Shaare Zedek Medical Centre

Architect: Farrow Partners

The strategy for the Shaare Zedek Medical Center Master Plan involves providing clear site circulation routes with direct access to nature, to accommodate all current and future clinical and patient programs, and to increase the overall functionality of the hospital to create a cohesive SZMC community.

A main priority of the master plan project is to expand the existing parking program and clarify the circulation strategy across the site. To facilitate this growth, a multi-level underground parking structure will be constructed under all new buildings. In addition, a more defined main entry drop-off area with a generous canopy will connect new and existing buildings while identifying a clear entry point. The newly defined main entrance will also act to divert and redistribute traffic to multiple entry points to decongest the site.

The SZMC master plan will be rolled out across several phases to deliver the hospital campus with; a new mixed-use building with a hotel, retail program, and nursing school; a central drop-off space that includes a canopied plaza; new research laboratories with an emergency parking and loading zone; new emergency outpatient and inpatient units; new maternal care building with inpatient and outpatient programs; and the Helmsley Cancer Center designed by Farrow Partners and Rubinstein Ofer.
