The Mifletzet children’s park, Jerusalem, Israel

Known as “The Golem”, the Jerusalem Parks Commission, originally flat out rejected the proposal believing that it would be too scary for children. The Mayor asked them to reconsider and the artist to make her case for ‘fear’.

She argued for the foundational value of something frightening in a place that is safe, because“scary things are good because they help children conquer their fears.”

Interestingly, the three tongue-like slides coming out of the monsters mouth and the climbing structure on its back, has become a very popular and much beloved place in the city for children – and adults alike – as I have witnessed.
