Opening of the York School Centre for Wellness

The Centre for Wellness at the York School opens its doors today, providing support for the social and emotional wellbeing of students.

The space will be used by students from grade 9-12 in tandem with counsellors to create individual success plans, apply to universities, and develop personal management skills.

The new Centre for Wellness is intimate and family room-like, featuring a large ‘kitchen table’ space, meeting rooms, offices, and a refreshment counter. The ceiling is composed of 140 Douglas fir beams that undulate to create a tree canopy effect. The scale and proximity of the ceiling establishes a relationship between the mind, the concept of embreathment, and the surrounding environment, through and with the body.
