Country Day School
King City, Ontario
The Country Day School is an independent university-preparatory, non-denominational school for boys and girls located in a community north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Farrow was selected to complete the planning and design for this project.
With a student population of approximately 700, the renewal and expansion of the Senior School will provide a focus for kindergarten to grade 12 students that greatly enhances the overall learning environment. The school’s 80-acre site overlooks rolling hills and protected wetlands that are part of the vast Oak Ridges Moraine, a vital watershed for the region.
The new Senior School program includes classrooms, science laboratories, a library, art rooms, administration, guidance and staff offices, common areas and rooms, washrooms, change rooms and storage rooms. A new 400-seat dining hall will include on-site food preparation or catering, loading and storage areas.
In addition, a separate sports pavilion will provide change rooms, coaching offices and a common athletic space suitable for tributes and small events. The design and functionality of the space will integrate well with the school's country setting and particularly embrace the wetlands to the east of the existing senior school.
